Australian labour newpapers in Paraguay
A talk by Victor Isaacs
Tuesday 2 March 2010
5:30 – 7:30 pm
Seminar Room A
Coombs Building
Fellows Road ANU
Radical, disillusioned Australians attempted to establish a utopian settlement in Paraguay in 1893. They produced a newspaper there for their own information and to inform relatives, friends and sympathisers back in Australia.
This talk will trace the history of the newspaper. It will also note the effect of the Paraguayan venture on the instigator, William Lane, and his very different views reflected in his journalism before and after the Paraguayan venture.
